Miura has the best iced coffee recipe for work from home

In our a great thing series, we highlight the best styling, beauty, and home stuff – found, tested, and obsessed with us. Here, the innovation of homemade iced coffee which is now part of Lara Buchar’s daily life.

A year after the start of the pandemic, there are few things that excite me to get out of bed in the morning. That is, until I tried Flash Chilled Coffee on tap, a new bulk format from Toronto coffee supplier Miura. I was skeptical at first (why would I need iced coffee “on tap” at home, where all drinks are mostly on tap?) But I was quickly proven wrong. Here’s why.

The commodity

The coffee comes in a sealed 3 liter tin with a tap (much like boxed wine), which keeps it chilled for up to two weeks in the fridge, unlike other iced coffees you can buy in bottles on the go. ‘grocery store. Although it holds 16 cups of coffee, it still fits nicely into my narrow apartment-sized fridge and rings for a pretty reasonable price tag of $ 35.99. That said, when I rush to my WFH office at 8:59 am to join my morning Slack meeting, I can pay myself a really a good coffee in 20 seconds is priceless.

I’ve tried making iced coffee at home a number of times throughout the pandemic, and it never holds up to the frozen mugs I would grab from the barista on my way to work. I had considered it a pre-pandemic ritual that I just couldn’t take home, until I tried Miura. It uses the Japanese technique of brewing coffee and then chilling it quickly, locking in flavors and aromas for a more complex flavor profile. I can’t claim to be a coffee connoisseur but I To do enjoy a smooth, drinkable cup of iced coffee, and this one is perfect. Plus, fixing it at home means you can get the size, milk, and sugar just the way you like it.

The novelty

Granted, part of the allure is the novelty of draft coffee – I instantly feel transported to the pre-pandemic coworking spaces, where the sparkling shared kitchens always seemed to have an endless supply of draft iced coffee. It’s a little window into the way we used to live, and while it’s a bit frivolous, luxury makes me jump out of bed and jump into the kitchen, even on Monday mornings. If it’s not worth $ 35, I don’t know what it is.
