Keurig Coffee Maker Reviews
Coffee is many people’s favorite hot drink, but if you brew it at home, the grounds can be messy and brewing can take a long time. The Keurig K-Classic coffee maker quickly and easily brews cups of coffee using K-Cup coffee pods, so there’s no need to grind beans, measure ground coffee, or clean it up once you have finished.
Keurig claims its K-Classic machine “brews a perfect cup of coffee, tea, hot cocoa, or iced beverage in less than a minute at the touch of a button,” which sounds ideal for the user of every day. We wanted to find out if this claim is true, so we tested the Keurig K-Classic coffee maker to find out. After some home testing, here’s what we found.
Keurig K-Classic Coffee Maker Review
Testing products in a lab or other controlled environment can give you an idea of how well they perform, but it’s only when you try them out in the real world over an extended period of time that you really get to know them and discover their quirks. . We have a group of testers who try the products at home for at least 2 weeks, with the aim of investigating all claims made by their manufacturers.
For this review, we entrusted it to a tester who regularly drinks coffee but also brews tea and hot chocolate on occasion. They typically use a Keurig 2.0 coffee maker, so they were able to compare the strength of the K-Classic to their usual model.
What is the Keurig K-Classic coffee maker?
The Keurig K-Classic is a single-serve coffee maker that uses pods to brew coffee. It is compatible with K-Cup pods, which are made by a variety of coffee brands and are widely available in North America. It also works with the My K-Cup reusable coffee filter, which is great if you want to use your own coffee blends.
Price and Where to Buy the Keurig K-Classic Coffee Maker
The Keurig K-Classic costs around $120 to $150, depending on whether you find it at a discount or at its recommended retail price. You can buy it from Keurig, Amazon, and Wayfair.
How to Use the Keurig K-Classic Coffee Maker
The K-Classic is extremely easy to set up and use. It is basically ready to use. All we had to do was set up the drip tray, remove a few pieces of tape from the machine, fill the water reservoir, plug in the power cord, and start brewing.
To start brewing, simply press the power button and wait for the water to heat up, then add your pod and press one of the three brew size buttons. The buttons feature images of small, medium and large cups, so it’s easy to tell which is which. They produce 6, 8, and 10 ounce cups, respectively.
Benefits of the Keurig K-Classic Coffee Maker
Fast brew time
Keurig claims the K-Classic has an infusion time of less than 1 minute. We found that it took around 60 seconds to brew a cup of coffee, with the larger sizes taking just a bit longer than the smaller ones. This saves a lot of time compared to brewing an entire pot of drip coffee.
Easy to use
We loved how easy this coffee maker was to use. There are only three buttons for brewing, so it’s as easy as selecting the brew size you want and waiting for the magic to happen. When using standard K-Cups, there’s no need to grind beans, measure coffee, or empty and clean a filter.
Easy to clean
Although we didn’t need to use the cleaning cycle during our test period, the process is simple: add a bottle of Keurig descaling solution to the empty water reservoir, add a designated amount of water, run the solution through the machine until the tank is empty, let it sit for 30 minutes, then run a cup of clean water through the machine before using it again.
The built-in 48-ounce water reservoir holds enough water to brew four to eight cups of coffee, depending on brew size. Some pod coffee makers only hold enough water to make a single drink, so the fact that this one can make up to eight drinks on a single fill is good if you don’t regularly make coffee for a large crowd.
We found this coffee machine to be the perfect balance between heavy enough to feel sturdy and well-made, but not so heavy that it’s difficult to lift or move around the kitchen.
Cons of the Keurig K-Classic Coffee Maker
Short power cord
At 28 inches, we found the power cord to be extremely short. We had to plug it into an extension cord to position it exactly where we wanted. However, it’s worth noting that Keurig makes its cords intentionally short so there isn’t too much excess when you position it near an outlet. Depending on how many outlets you have in your kitchen and where they are located, cord length may not be an issue.
Water takes time to heat up
Although it only takes about 60 seconds to brew a cup of coffee, the water in the tank has to warm up before you can do that. It takes 4-5 minutes to heat a full tank of water, which can be inconvenient when you’re in a hurry. However, it only takes 15-30 seconds for the water to heat up between cups.
The tank could be bigger
It’s nice to have a reservoir big enough to make multiple drinks, but some coffee makers have larger reservoirs, which are useful for large households, offices, and anyone who regularly hosts large groups of people.
Only three brew sizes
While we found all three brew sizes adequate for our needs, some users find it limited and would prefer a few more sizes.
Should You Get the Keurig K-Classic Coffee Maker?
The Keurig K-Classic is a premium single-serve coffee maker ideal for people who want the speed and convenience of pods. It lives up to the claim that it brews coffee, tea and hot chocolate in less than a minute, although whether this is the “perfect” cup is debatable.
If you’re looking to make full carafes of coffee or have a steam wand to make specialty drinks, this isn’t the machine for you. However, if you want an easy-to-use pod coffee machine, this is a solid choice.
