Instant coffee recipe with Bailey’s is the perfect Christmas drink

Dalgona cafe took a bit of a hit during the first lockdown when our beloved cafes were closed and we had to make do with makeshift delights at home.

With Christmas on the horizon, we gave the milk drink a festive twist by adding a splash of Irish Cream Liqueur such as Bailey’s.

It’s suitably smooth, ultra-luxurious, and wonderfully boozy. Plus, you don’t need fancy ingredients or expensive equipment to make it, just instant coffee granules and good old elbow grease will do.

Instagram foodie @cakeontherun shared her delicious recipe with us. It can be enjoyed hot or cold. Her recipe below uses cold milk, but if you want something to warm up, just use hot milk instead.

Likewise, if you’re vegan, use dairy-free milk and dairy-free Irish Cream Liqueur, both available in major supermarkets.

Dalgona Irish Cream Coffee is perfect for the festive season

Dalgona Irish Cream Coffee Recipe (for 1 person)


  • 2 teaspoons of instant coffee granules.
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar.
  • 2 teaspoons of boiling water.
  • 300 ml of cold milk.
  • 25 ml or 50 ml Irish cream liqueur


1. Whisk sugar, coffee and water in a hand cup for three minutes until thick and creamy. It may give your arm a little sore and you may not think it will ever get silky, but believe us, it works.

2. Fill a liqueur glass with Irish cream and milk of your choice.

3. Pour the coffee mixture over the milk.
