IKEA urgently recalls popular coffee machine – METALLISK Espresso Maker – over fears it could explode

An IKEA coffee maker has been urgently recalled across the country.

A failure of the METALLISK espresso machine with the stainless steel safety valve could cause it to “burst” and cause “burns, scalds or serious injury,” the ACCC warned.

The manufacturing defect is in the safety valve itself.

If it’s not working properly, it can “burst the product,” IKEA said in the product’s safety recall.

“Bursting can cause the upper half and lower half of the espresso machine to suddenly separate.”

“If the espresso machine bursts during use, it may increase the risk of burns, scalds or serious injury.”

IKEA advised customers to immediately stop using the product and return it for a full refund or exchange.

Proof of purchase is not required.

To see if your MATALLISK has been recalled, look under the base of the product for the “between 2040 and 2204” manufacturing date stamps.

The product was available for purchase online and in-store.
