Collect all 25 cans with mechs from the original Mobile Suit Gundam series!
Can you believe that the very first Gundam anime started airing 40 years ago, in 1979? the original Mobile Suit Gundam The series revolutionized the “giant mecha” genre and launched a hugely popular series of anime, movies, models, video games, manga, and even novels. As such, it’s only fitting that the monumental anime’s 40th anniversary be celebrated.
It turns out that the famous brand of canned coffee from Coca Cola, Georgia Emerald Mountain Blendalso celebrates an anniversary: the coffee vending machine has been around for 25 years! So, why not commemorate both anniversaries with a special collaboration?
As of April 22, you will be able to find boxes of limited-edition Emerald Mountain Blend coffee, designed by Mobile Suit Gundam, in vending machines across the country. There will be 25 different models released across four stages throughout the summer, featuring 25 different mobile suits, fighters, and transport vehicles.
The release of the drawings will follow the story of the anime. The mobile suits and machines will apparently debut in the same order as in the anime. For example, in stage one, the six cans that will be launched are Amuro’s Gundam, Char’s Zaku, Zaku II, Zaku I, White Base Suit Carrier, and Musai-class Cruiser.
▼ The cans also vary in size, between 185 gram (6.5 ounce) cans and 170 gram cans (the smaller cans will not be available in Okinawa).
Stages two, three and four will be released monthly starting in June, and each will feature six or seven other mobile suits, aircraft, transport vehicles, and technologies that appear in the show, such as the Haro (Stage Two), the MS-09B Dom (Stage Three), and the Acguy (Stage Four). Some models may only be known to the most serious fans, but everyone will want to collect them all!
You can find these special cans all over Japan, but in Tokyo you will also have the opportunity to buy them from a special Mobile Suit Gundam vending machinewhich will be located on the first floor of Shibuya Mark City (right next to Shibuya Station) between April 29 and May 5. When you press the button to buy a can, Char or Amuro’s voice will shout one of their slogans in Japanese, so this might be the most nostalgic vending machine experience you’ll ever have.
Every box you buy also comes with a special code, so if you don’t want to keep old coffee cans, you can use the code to collect a digital card online with the same original design. Plus, if you buy four or more cans in any of the four stages, you can also enter to win one of 100 special posters featuring an original Mobile Suit Gundam sketch. Each stage has a different poster, so Mobile Suit Gundam fans will definitely want to sign up.
But hurry up! The stock of each can in each vending machine will only be refilled once, so once the cans run out, they are sold out! You’ll want to hit your nearest machine shortly after each stage releases if you want to collect them all.
