A small, fast-heating coffee machine, the Cyetus Mini 4-in-1 Instant Heating Espresso Coffee Machine offers great versatility, working with Nespresso, Dolce Gusto and freshly ground coffee. I found the coffee to be a bit too hot, the ground coffee weaker than in a dedicated machine and it’s annoying that the power cable doesn’t fit through the holder.
- Heats up quickly
- Works with Nespresso, ground coffee and Dulce Gusto
- Very small
- Very hot coffee
- The power cable does not fit into the holder
- Espresso so-so from ground coffee
TypeIt is primarily a pod espresso machine, although it also works with ground coffee.
Most coffee machines are quite large and work with only one type of coffee, whether ground or in pods. The Cyetus Mini 4-in-1 Instant Heating Espresso Coffee Machine is different: it’s smaller, heats up faster, and works with ground coffee (and loose leaf tea), Nespresso pods, and original Dulce Gusto.
Slightly tedious use and poor results with ground coffee harm the whole machine.
Design and features
- Tall and slim
- The power cable does not pass through the bracket
- Comes with three extraction chambers
The Cyetus Mini 4 in 1 Instant Heating Espresso Coffee Machine is small. Even smaller than the smallest pod coffee machines I’ve reviewed, like the Nespresso CitiZ. Cyetus managed to keep the size down by stuffing everything into a vertical column, making this machine look more like a hand blender than an espresso machine. This design is great, especially if you’re short on counter space.
I have one complaint though: the power plug can’t fit through the gap in the bracket, so the cable ends up sitting awkwardly. The bracket can be unscrewed to get the cable through, but that looks like an unnecessary mistake.
This machine only has a small 300ml water tank, which simply plugs into the top of the machine. It can be removed for refilling, but there is also a plastic cup in the box for refilling.
If you want more water storage, there is a hose in the box, which can be dropped into a water bottle. I found it didn’t look as neat as the reservoir provided.
There are three extraction chambers in the box: one for ground coffee, one for Nespresso pods and one for Dulce Gusto pods. All three work the same way: you open the extraction chamber, place the coffee in the middle, put the lid back on and slide the unit into the espresso machine.
I have found that with ground coffee the extraction chamber is not as neat as using a group handle and portafilter on a traditional machine. When there is a bit of overflow on a traditional espresso machine, a quick wipe with your thumb can remove the coffee. With the deeper extraction chamber, excess coffee is difficult to remove.
I didn’t think much about the provided sabotage either. It’s far too flimsy, and I’d replace it with a metal one.
Using the pods is slightly easier, as they simply fall out. With the Nespresso chamber, there are blades at the bottom that open the pod. While adding a pod is easy, removing it is slightly more difficult, as the extraction chamber and the pod are hot when they come out. One of the benefits of an actual Nespresso machine is that used pods fall into a bin, where they can cool down before recycling.
With an extraction chamber in place, there is a simple switch on the side of the Cyetus Mini 4-in-1 Instant Heating Espresso Coffee Machine that locks everything in place and turns the machine on.
It heats up in seconds before dispensing coffee when you press one of three buttons: 45ml, 90ml and 160ml coffee.
That’s roughly equivalent to a large shot of espresso, a double and not quite a full cup. There’s no temperature control on this machine, so it’s not ideal for tea, although it can technically take loose leaves in the ground coffee extraction pod.
There’s a small travel tray at the bottom, which pulls out for quick cleaning.
- Very hot espresso
- Basic shot of espresso from ground coffee
- Best Nespresso Extraction
I tested the coffee machine starting with a Nespresso pod. After pressing the espresso button, the Cyetus Mini 4 in 1 Instant Heating Espresso Coffee Machine started brewing coffee. I found the shot had a nice thick cream.
During the final shoot, the temperature was 77°C, which is much warmer than I expected: around 65°C is about right. As a result, the coffee had lost some subtlety and was not as good as when brewed in a regular Nespresso machine.
Then I switched to ground coffee. As stated above, I struggled to get a decent buffer with the provided buffer. Even using another, the design of the extraction pod was not as easy to pack as using a portafilter.
I did a few shots, but each came out rather underpowered, and I couldn’t get a thick, rich cream on top. Combined with the high temperature, the coffee tasted quite bitter and lacked the depth that a good espresso machine would give.
Should I buy it?
If you want to swap between ground coffee and pods, and you don’t have a lot of space, this coffee machine might be for you.
If you want the best quality coffee, a dedicated pod coffee machine or espresso machine will give you better results.
Small size and wide compatibility make Cyetus Mini 4 in 1 Instant Heating Espresso Coffee Maker an attractive choice of machine. Still, for all its positives, I didn’t find it as good as a dedicated pod machine or a dedicated espresso machine.
