Moved…

Well, it’s been an interesting couple of weeks (and to be fair, it still is). I have moved to a new place and to celebrate this new beginning, I decided to upgrade to WordPress 2.0.2 and update the theme of this website. I would like to say that I plan on tweaking it here and there but I don’t know that I’ll have time to actually do it. I would also like to say that I’m going to try and post more regularly with more interesting things to say, but, here again, I don’t know that that’ll ever happen. ;)

Anyway, hope you enjoy the new theme and hopefully, you’ll hear from me again in not too long!

Still alive!

It’s been a long time coming but I’m finally posting again! Lots of things have happened since last time I posted so I guess I should summarize a little bit…

First, of course, I’d like to wish everyone a very happy New Year and lots of happiness and health for 2006 (and beyond)!

Then, I’d like to congratulate the Denver Broncos for their divisional playoff win over the New England Patriots. It had been a long time since they last won a playoff game and it’s nice to see them advance to the AFC championship for the first time in 7 years. While I haven’t blogged about it this season, I have been following their play (like I always do) and I was extremely pleased with the way they handled the end of the season to secure a second seed (bye and home game, baby!). Of course, while it’s a nice achievement, there is still two games to play and win before they can be where they want to be. But, first thing first, they’re going to have a tough game next week against a very good Pittsburgh team (sorry, Sylvain, but I hope they’ll beat the Steelers soundly and advance to the Superbowl).

So what have I been up to? As mentioned in my last post, I spent a month in France. It was really nice and relaxing to be able to come back home after having stayed in the US for more than a year and a half. I got to spent some quality time with family and friends and that’s something which importance is easy to underestimate. It was also really nice to finally go back to the Alps and snowboard on some real mountains (despite the now traditional lack of snow of the early season). The only trouble spot with that trip was the fact that, while tweaking my board settings, I forgot to screw all the screws tight of one my bindings which basically got removed from the board the first time I applied some pressure to it on the slopes… End result: a nice fall with my binding still attached to my leg but free from the board, making my left leg hit the edge of the board which cut through my just recently bought pants and a still-not-healed gash on my shin.

I also got upgraded on the return trip after giving up my seat on my originally scheduled overbooked flight and I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t wish to always fly business. ;)

I’m also starting to get a better understanding of the JBoss Portal code base so I should become more productive soon. I have also been looking for a new place to live in visiting lots of houses and it’s taken up a lot of my free time. Hopefully, everything will slow down soon and I’ll be able to blog some more. :)

New job

It’s been a long time since last time I posted. My thoughts (and time) have been consumed by my quest to find a new job. I interviewed for several positions some more promising than others but in the end, it boiled down to two great but vastly differing offers between which I had a really hard time deciding…

Time was of the essence in this matter, as it often is, and with a slightly different timing, the outcome could have been very different (sorry, Christophe :( ). However, I am happy and very excited to report that, thanks to a late but strong push by my former roommate Julien Viet, I’ll be joining JBoss to work on JBoss Portal as of November 30th. Thanks again to everyone who made this possible. I can’t wait to get started!

Off to much-needed vacations

Going to Vegas and the Grand Canyon for Labor Day, extending the long week-end on both ends. See you when I get back!

Obviously, it’s difficult not to think about what’s going on in the Mississippi valley and New Orleans. Consider giving money to charities to support people in need there. It took me all of 15 seconds via iTunes: it’s fast and easy and I’m sure that if you read this blog, you can spare 5, 10, 20 bucks…

Busy working on Mesquite

I have been busy working on Mesquite with Robert lately. You can follow what we’ve been up to in our development blog!

2004 Zeitgeist

Edited for clarity and slightly expanded content

A little late but better late than never: I present to you Metacosm’s 2004 Zeitgeist!

I had 12,901 hits for 8,669 users since I started tracking stats via StatTraq on August 06. The most popular browser was Safari followed by Mozilla’s variants (including Firefox). Internet Explorer is present as well but not significantly so (or perhaps, it is significant that it is not more present in my logs, read in that what you wish). Interestingly, I had about as many visitors via Lynx (75 visitors, a text-only browser used mainly on UNIX systems) than via Opera (81 visitors, all versions). Doesn’t bode well for Opera if you ask me…

As was to be expected, most people found this website via Google. The biggest, non-Google referrer, though, was Dan Dickinson’s article: Quicksilver – A Better OS X In Just 10 Minutes via my Quicksilver Screenshots article which trackbacked Dan’s article. Coincidentally, Dan has updated his article for B33 while Quicksilver itself was upped to B34.

One of the better post I think I’ve written (my article on Knowledge Management via Bookmarks) ranks second in number of non-Google referrers thanks to its having been picked up by Jonathan Rentzsch when I trackbacked his article on Better Bookmarking with HistoryHound and del.icio.us. Not coincidentally but still true, that article of mine still awaits its second part… Shame on me!

However, the post which generated the most traffic overall (completely thanks to Google), was my post on Missile Balloons which got me a combined 370 visits. Behold the power of memes! :)

I guess all in all, it was a pretty good year considering that I’m still fairly new at this. I do wish though that I had followed up more on some of my posts which got interesting comments. I also wished I could spend more time making this weblog more original but often lack the time and/or energy… Oh well, I guess I can add that to my New Year’s resolutions! ;)

Upgraded to WordPress 1.5 beta

Well, it’s a new year (yep, another one). I started blogging a little over year ago (January 4, 2004 to be precise) albeit at a different address, using iBlog at the time. When I made the move to Codepuccino, I first used Movable Type before growing annoyed with it and decided to switch to WordPress. I’ve been very happy with WordPress and for this new year, I decided to upgrade to 1.5 beta nightly hence the change of appearance here. There might be some kinks to work out though so if you find any problem, let me know. I find Kubrik very clean so I just made tiny adaptations until I learn more about themes.

MarsEdit 1.0 ships!

MarsEdit 1.0 ships today!

Finishing a release—especially a one-point-oh—feels great.

Congratulations! :)

So… How easy is MarsEdit? This post was created using MarsEdit by selecting the above text in NetNewsWire and selecting “Post to weblog”. MarsEdit then used my already defined attribution template to format the post. I then selected the categories for the post in the drawer and ran a custom applescript (leveraging MarsEdit Applescript support) to include information about the song I was listening to at the time of writing… A quick check that everything is as it’s supposed to using the preview (which uses the exact look I use on the weblog) then I’ll press shift-command-d (just like in Mail) to send this post on its way.

As you can see, you can do fairly interesting things with MarsEdit though it doesn’t need to be involved if you just want to post a quick entry to your weblog.
