My rogue finally made it to 80!
Mar 27th
As I am waiting for my system updates to complete on my recently re-installed OS X, I figured I’d post something here while I wait…
I recently managed to reach level 80 with my rogue on World of Warcraft. It’s been quite fun running quests and accumulating experience again. It’s also very weird to find myself in a patchwork of different quality items (greens, *gasp*!), which I will now work on upgrading.
I haven’t had the opportunity to run many instances, what with a busy work schedule and the fact that I’m still playing on my old US-based server and I am now in France… So being able to run a 25-man raid last night with my crappy equipment was both eye opening and overwhelming. For one, I was quite lucky to even get on the raid, period. Despite letting a newb like me in, everything went so fast and smoothly that it made it painfully obvious how far back my play has dropped with my more-than-casual play of the last year or so… I will need quite a bit of work to get back into the rhythm of things: I still need to master my new build and its rotation, I’m clueless about the new buffs, and just overall rusty… I see a lot of 5-man instances in my future!
Updates all done, time for a restart and then, back to work!
Come on sucker, lick my battery!

It’s nice to relax after a long day of work… Sacha‘s most recent post reminded me of the excellent Kiwi humorist duo: Flight of the Conchords. Here’s my favorite song of theirs:
Enjoy!
Kaneda’s bike?
Nov 13th
It was the end of the 80′s and as a dorky teenager, I was fascinated by Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira, and in particular, its main character‘s bike. This childhood’s dream of a bike seems eerily close today with the EV-X7 prototype electric bike. Looks like I won’t have to wait until 2019 after all!
Heroes Season 2…
Nov 8th
… has failed to keep me entranced so far. I still haven’t watched last Monday’s episode. Apparently, I’m not the only who thinks that the beginning of season 2 has been pretty weak, as even Tim Kring (the show’s creator) admits as much. Hopefully, this will be addressed soon as it’s quite a shame to see a good show turn rather un-interesting, not to say plain bad!
Well, according to what I read, episode 7 was supposed to get the show back on track and it didn’t disappoint. I’m still not sure about the season but, at least, this last episode provided some hope. Let’s see where they go from here…
New anime collaboration between Shirow and Production I.G.
Sep 7th
I’m pretty excited to learn today about a new collaboration between Masamune Shirow and Production I.G., collaboration which already resulted in one of my favorite series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (sequel and OAV included). The new series is called Ghost Hound (official website, Production I.G. english website) and it’s starting on October 18th, 2007. Hopefully, it will be just as bit as good as the previous collaborations!
New Blade Runner cut
Sep 4th
According to Scott, the new cut is what the movie should have been. I already own the Director’s cut, how different is it going to be? Will it be the last cut?
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Jun 16th
I have finally watched Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and 2nd Gig entirely. I am still amazed by the quality of the animation and of the story despite the series being several years old now. Even watching all the episodes in close sequence, the story is so complex, it is still difficult to follow all the nuances. I will need to watch 2nd Gig again sometime soon. It’s too bad that neither The Laughing Man nor Individual Eleven made it on DVD here. It would have been interesting to see the main plot of both seasons isolated from the other sub-plots (though in the case of Individual Eleven, it might prove quite difficult since the main plot is much more present than the Laughing Man theme was in the first season). I guess I could watch all the bonus features and the Official Log Volume 1 (seems like there’s a volume 2 but I haven’t been to find it for sale). Also in queue, I am eagerly waiting for my copy of Solid State Society.
Bloc Party Live!
Jun 5th
I went to see Bloc Party at the D.A.R Constitution Hall on Sunday. The band was better than last time I saw them (opening for the Pixies at Merriweather Pavilion): they were more comfortable on stage. The only problem was that the balance varied quite a bit between songs: sometimes the settings were good and you could discern all the different instruments but too often, the bass was too loud.
Upcoming movies
Apr 25th
There are a couple of movies that seem interesting coming up this summer (based on the list at Geeks of Doom). In no particular order, more of a reminder to myself:
- Day Watch
- Rise: Blood Hunter (not too sure about that one)
- Stardust
- Next (only here because it’s based on a Philip K. Dick’s novel: it looks like it’s going to suck REAL bad)
- 28 Weeks Later
- The Invisible
Frolix-8 tells us that there’s a bunch of PKD’s novels that could be turned into movies… Something to (not?) look forward to?
Speaking of movies, I saw 300 not long ago and it was amazing (albeit a little too violent with a bent on glorifying violence, but what else to expect from a movie dealing with Sparta’s stand against the Persian empire). Very graphically interesting! On a lighter note: a very funny 300 spoof!
