Brad - As the author of HistoryHound, I just wanted to stop in and see if you or your readers had any additional suggestions for improvements. I'm preparing version 1.6, to be released in the next couple of days, with less CPU-intensive indexing and support for Mozilla-based browsers (Camino, Firefox, Navigator), as well as a handful of other enhancements.

I'd also like feedback on what everyone's looking for in the way of bookmark and history synchronizing between machines, too. I personally like a local solution, rather than having everything based at spurl's server, except for the portability issue.

Thanks! - Jon

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad Spurl is working well for you. Indexing pages from imported bookmarks is something that we are planning to do. It is a bit deamanding resourcewise as you can imagine, downloading what may be thousands of pages and storing them at import time, so it needs a little planning.

As for the interfaces, I haven't looked into REST, but I'm pretty sure you can use the Atom and RSS feeds for pretty much any integration you want. Integrating a feed with a PHP page is for example relatively simple by using RSS and PHP XML parsing functions. We will write a quick sample and post on the Spurl.net user forums soon.

You might also want to take a look at the (still under development) Spurl streams (http://stream.spurl.net/) that allow Spurl.net users to work in open or closed groups to collect information on a given topic.

Feel free to contact if you need any further info for the second article.

Best,
Hjalmar Gislason, Founder of Spurl.net

Thanks for the heads up. I have started looking at it. I like the interface and like the circle idea (it is actually one of the ideas I am going to develop in part 2).

For Part 2, you may also want to look at Simpy (http://www.simpy.com/), which may give you some new ideas.
